Birthday Corsages for girls were made by close friends. A girl would wear several of them to school on her birthday. They were made with a big bow, curly ribbons and streamers. The streamers would hold the items that would correspond to the year of the birthday.

Slam Books - are
traditionally a notebook passed among students, where the reader adds anonymous
comments. Slam books often list one person per page, and readers add their
anonymous comments under the person's name (often slamming the person listed).
Other versions list one question per page, which also receive anonymous
comments. The question versions usually focus on the group's social structure
and fads, such as: who is most popular, or worst dressed, or whether the reader
likes a certain fad, game, movie, etc. Slam books are so-called for reasons
including: 1.) slamming the person commented on, or, 2.) the students' habit of
slamming the book shut and hiding it to avoid its confiscation. Most popular
among teens and young adolescents, slam books are notorious for humiliating
their subjects, which is one reason why teachers and administrators confiscate
them.
Webmaster Note: They now do it on-line so the whole world can see it. That's progress.
